Mentioned as being at Redcar in a flora of 1888 and can still be found growing very happily in the bumpy mown grass just near the cafe on The Stray. On a map surveyed in 1927 this area is a putting green, which means it’s likely that the grass has been mown here for at least the last 85 years.
How amazing is that?
Very amazing.
Old maps are really interesting and can often tell you something about the habitat in the past which sometimes helps explain why a plant is growing there now.
