An alien shrub but one with a long local history; it was mentioned in 1854 as being commonly used to make hedges in the Redcar and Marske and it’s still there dotted along the coast, but most obvious at The Stray in Redcar towards the Lily Park end. It’s also the source of the popular ‘Goji berry’.
